The Florentine Pool Table

Dwight T. Porter’s Florentine exhibits seventeenth century characteristics brought to England by Inigo Jones, the first to bring Italian and French Renaissance architecture to England.  The gracefully contoured cabinet made of alder hardwood combines Palladian Neoclassicism and the more subtle symmetry of the Adamesque style.  The African Sedua rails are hand-rubbed to a piano finish.  The bold hand-carved blind rails and modified Queen Anne embellished with Italian Baroque flowers and scrolling are combined to create a sculpture of grand elegance.
